Naomi Osaka will make a comeback at the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time in four years next month, the team announced Friday.
Osaka will feature for her country when Japan face Kazakhstan in a qualifier in Tokyo.
The four-time Grand Slam champion is making her return to tennis this season after giving birth and last stepped out on the court at the event in 2020.
The 26-year-old has taken part at five tournaments since making her comeback, and went down against Belgium's Elise Mertens in the round of 32 at the Indian Wells Masters earlier this week.
Osaka is 287 on the WTA rankings after being on the sidelines for 15 months due to a maternity leave.
It will be Osaka's first appearance in Tokyo since she pulled out from the Pan Pacific Open in September 2022 before her match in the second round.
Japan will lock horns with Kazakhstan on April 12 and 13 at Tokyo's Ariake Coliseum, where Osaka qualified for the third round of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The winners will qualify for November's finals in Spain.
"She said that she wants to play, so I'm really happy," local media quoted Japan captain Ai Sugiyama as saying.
Osaka has previously stated that she wants to feature at this summer's Paris Olympics.
